Healthy French Onion Dip

Super Bowl is right around the corner and you know what is always a hit? FRENCH ONION DIP! However, even though it tastes yummy, it isn’t the healthiest for you. I know if I eat too much of the original version, I feel gross after. This is where my recipe comes to the rescue! This dip cuts the fat basically in half by using a majority non-fat greek yogurt and then only 1/4 cup low-fat sour cream to help with flavor. However, you would never know this is a diet dip! It tastes like the real thing.

I love all of the onion pieces too…it is chock full of them and it is so easy to make. Now you can have all the dip you want while watching your team make that winning touchdown!

Recipe:

Serves 7-8 as an appetizer dip

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cup Diced Yellow Onions or 3 Medium Onions

2 tbsp Light Oil

1/4 cup Low-Fat Sour Cream

1 1/2 cup Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt

1/2 tsp Granulated Garlic

1 tsp Onion Powder

1/2 tsp Salt

Directions:

1. Using a large sauté pan, heat 2 tbsp of light oil over medium high heat and then add the diced onions. Sauté for 3 min or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Turn to medium heat and cook for 4 min and then cook on medium low for an additional 5 min. The onions should be a light to medium brown color from caramelizing in the pan.

2. In a medium decorative serving bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients together and then add the cooked onions. Mix until all the ingredients are fully incorporated. Serve with your favorite cracker!
